  1. I served aboard the SES Santa Maria, when Mr. Matson was the first mate. Do you know who I can contact to find out where the Ship is currently at?

    • Hi William! My apologies for not getting back to you sooner. I’ve been working on growing some of our online media and prepping to revamp our website as a parent volunteer and novice. Are you looking for the old Yankee Clipper? She was retired and scrapped with ceremony and gratitude for the years she served as our vessel. We have a new Yankee Clipper and she’s serving us well. We sail out of the Ballard Pac Fish Shipyard and the youth are getting ready for their annual long cruise. Hope this helps, though it was delayed.

  2. Hello, this is Len Walton. I crewed on the Yankee Clipper way back around 1969-1971. My best friend Chris Johannesen and I had recently earned our Eagle Scout badges and decided to switch to Sea Scouts and join the Yankee Clipper. Those times were among the best of my life and the lessons learned with the Yankee Clipper served me well.

I don’t know if any from that era are still involved in the ship but if they are I thought they may want to know of Chris’ recent passing. After courageously battling a brain tumor for over a year, Chis left us on May 22. I know he always carried great memories from his time on the clipper and we would regularly reminisce about those days. He moved to the Shelton area several years back, so I don’t know if anyone in the Seattle area knew of his health situation.

On a brighter note, I see from the web site that the old clipper is gone but, it looks like the new boat is absolutely brilliant. Nice job.

    Cheers,

    Len Walton

    • Hi Len,

We’re sorry to hear about Chris’s passing and hope everyone he touched is being supported in remembering him. The bonds that are built being part of the Sea Scouts and with the Yankee Clipper are deep and strong and thank you for sharing yours. We are loving our new Yankee Clipper. We’re currently getting her ready to sail long cruise and heading to BC. If you want to keep track of us, we’re working on building our Facebook and Instagram. Feel free to stop by if the chance ever arises.
